The competition bridges the worlds of language, logic, computer science, and mathematics. Participants tackle problems focused on analyzing linguistic data – often from highly exotic languages – and develop skills in logical reasoning, algorithmic problem-solving, and creative thinking. No prior knowledge of foreign languages or technical terms is required – everything participants need is provided in the task instructions.
The top four contestants represent the Czech Republic at the International Linguistics Olympiad, competing among participants from over 30 countries. In 2024, Czech high school students achieved a historic success in Brazil, taking first place in the team competition and bringing home the country's first-ever gold medal. They also earned a silver and a bronze medal in the individual competition, along with awards for best solutions to selected tasks.
